On the mound today for Arizona is right-handed veteran Merrill Kelly (1-0) making his third start of spring training. So far in 8.1 innings pitched, he has 14 strikeouts and a 2.16 ERA throwing the ball as well as he has ever in his career to prepare for the regular season.
Last season Merrill went 12-8 overall in his 30 starts with a 3.29 ERA registering 187 strikeouts. The veteran adds a steady arm to the rotation for Arizona as they try to show the league that last season’s run to the World Series was not a fluke, but just the first step in the team’s future.
Milwaukee counters with DL Hall (1-0) in his third start and fourth appearance of spring training this season. So far in 7.1 innings pitched Hall has seven total strikeouts and a 4.91 ERA as he warms up for his third season in the majors.
