Detroit lost the tiebreaker with Washington this season after losing two of the three games. One loss came down to overtime and then a 2-1 loss just a week ago that decided the season series and the tiebreaker.
This game will be a tough test for Detroit after all three of the first four games went to overtime this season. Detroit won two of those games, including a 5-4 win in overtime yesterday.
In the game yesterday Detroit needed to come from behind after Montreal built a 4-1 lead late in the second period. J.T Compher started the comeback with a goal late in the second period followed by an Alex DeBrincat to close the gap. Lucas Raymond tied the game with less than 90 seconds in regulation and then the winning goal in overtime. Another game like that in the season finale would put Detroit in a position to potentially make the playoffs this season.
