NFL rankings: Top 5 wide receiver duos in the NFL

With the passing offense becoming more prevalent in the NFL, teams are looking for elite duos of receivers. Here are the NFL’s top five duos.

As the NFL develops, the importance of the passing game and the dying down of the rushing attack has been more and more prevalent. That requires teams who want to compete to have one of the most talented receiving corps in the league. Most teams have a valuable and productive top wide receiver, but the mark of the great team is the wide receiver two and the ability to force cornerbacks into coverage of two dominant receivers. Here are the top five receiving pairs in the 2023 NFL season.

5. DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett, Seattle Seahawks

The Seahawks as a team have struggled through the first couple weeks of the season. This duo could be more considered a trio with the addition of Jaxon Smith-Njigba from the NFL Draft. Metcalf has 15 receptions with 234 yards and a touchdown. However, Metcalf is averaging just 13 yards per target. Tyler Lockett has 21 targets with 13 receptions through three weeks. He has only totaled 113 yards and is averaging just under 10 yards per catch which is down from last year.

4. Puka Nacua and Cooper Kupp, Los Angeles Rams

The rise of Puka Nacua capitulated a lone ranger like Cooper Kupp onto a list of top-five receiving duos. I fully expect Nacua and Kupp to rise up this list once they get on the field together. However, they are at No. 4 because of what they have done individually for the same team. They will rise or fall once Kupp comes back from IR. Without Kupp, Nacua has been making strides. He has 42 targets with 30 receptions for 338 yards by himself despite not finding the endzone yet. Pairing him with Kupp once he comes back could be a deadly duo.

3. Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, Cincinnati Bengals

I kept Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins this high despite the lack of production that they have shown. Typically, they would be in contention with the two mentioned above, but until they reach a height together again, they will come in at No. 3. Chase had a miserable first two weeks of the season as the WR45 and WR60 in the league. He bounced back last week with a 12 catch for a 141-yard performance. Higgins showed up when Chase was down finishing with eight receptions for 89 yards and a touchdown in Week 2 before falling to the WR83 in Week 3.

2. A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, Philadelphia Eagles

A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith have helped lead this offense and develop the rise of Jalen Hurts. Through three games, Brown has seen 30 targets with 20 receptions for 239 yards despite not finding the endzone. Smith, on the other side, has 20 targets with 15 receptions for 206 yards and two touchdowns. We have yet to see Brown and Smith both go off for a big game at the same time which should happen in the near future.

1. Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, Miami Dolphins

Through the first couple weeks of the NFL season, Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle have continued to make claim to the best wide receiver duo in the league. Tyreek Hill has 25 receptions for 412 yards and four touchdowns this season. Outside of a poor Week 2 performance due to the Patriots’ elite defensive scheme, Hill is averaging over 14 yards per target and over 18 yards per catch. On the other side, Waddle has eight receptions on 11 targets after missing Week 3 due to injury. He has 164 yards on those catches as well averaging over 20 yards per catch and 15 yards per target.
