A battle between Huskies will take place Tuesday as UConn and Northeastern meet in non-conference play.
On Tuesday afternoon, a non-conference matchup will take place as Northeastern hosts UConn at Friedman Diamond. The Northeastern Huskies are currently in third place in the Colonial Athletic standings with a conference record of 14-7 and an overall record of 32-13. Over the weekend, the team took on North Carolina A&T and picked up a 13-3 win in the finale to avoid the sweep. Tyler MacGregor led Northeastern offensively, finishing the game with five RBI from two home runs in the win. Matt Brinker also hit a home run to bring home two runs in the first inning. Wyatt Scotti earned the win on the mound with six innings of work in which he struck out seven batters.

UConn is currently at the top of the Big East standings with a record of 12-3 against conference opponents and an overall record of 27-19. The team’s last time on the diamond resulted in a 5-2 win over Seton Hall in the rubber match to secure the series victory over the fifth-place Pirates. Ian Cooke improved to 3-1 on the season after pitching 8.2 innings in which he struck out an impressive nine batters before Brady Afthim came in to earn the save. Tyler Minnick powered the Husky offense, going 3-for-4 with three RBI from two doubles and a single. The Pirates’ only runs came from a last-ditch effort in the ninth with two runs, but UConn’s 5-0 lead was enough to hold them off.
UConn and Northeastern met back in March and played a tightly contested game which went in Northeastern’s favor with a 7-6 win.
