Despite bogeying the 18th for the 2nd straight day, Xander Schauffele maintains his 4-shot lead at the Wells Fargo Championship

Xander Schauffele finished his second round on Friday with his lone bogey of the day, giving back one shot of his lead entering the third round of the Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte. It was the second straight day Schauffele bogeyed the 18th hole, but he retained a four-shot lead after a second-round 67. Rory McIlroy and Jason Day share second place at seven-under-par going into moving day. The Signature Event pays $3.6 million to the winner, who also earns 700 FedExCup points. Defending champion Wyndham Clark stands well out of contention after back-to-back rounds of 73.

The tournament, in its second year as a Signature Event, began in 2003, with 18 of the 20 tournaments played at Quail Hollow. It was contested at Eagle Point Golf Club in Wilmington, North Carolina, in 2017 and at Maryland’s TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm in 2022.

McIlroy is the lone three-time winner of the event, hoisting the trophy in 2010, 2015 and 2021, while Max Homa emerged victorious in 2019 and 2022.

Adrian Bartosiński makes his 2nd defense of his KSW welterweight title against Igor Michaliszyn in Gdańsk, Poland, on Saturday

KSW welterweight champion Adrian Bartosiński (15-0) defends his title on Saturday at Ergo Arena in Gdańsk/Sopot, Poland, on Saturday, taking on Igor Michaliszyn (10-2) in a bout scheduled for five rounds. Bartosiński claimed the vacant title with a win over Artur Szczepaniak on April 22, 2023, and defended it successfully with a unanimous decision over Salahdine Parnasse at KSW 89 in Gliwice, Poland, on Dec. 16. Michaliszyn comes in with five straight victories, but hasn’t fought since stopping Krystian Bielski in the second round at KSW 81. The Bartosiński-Michaliszyn bout headlines a seven-fight main card on Saturday that includes a battle for the interim KSW featherweight championship.

The remainder of the main card includes heavyweights Ricardo Prasel (13-4) and Štefan Vojčák (7-1), Kacper Formela (17-4) against Ahmed Vila (12-4-1) in a featherweight bout, another matchup of featherweights in Dawid Kareta (5-3) and Daniel Tărchilă (7-2); and Michał Michalski (11-5) and Bartosz Leśko (13-4-2) in the middleweight division.

Week 7 of the 2024 UFL season kicks off with the Memphis Showboats visiting the Arlington Renegades on Saturday.

Saturday afternoon, Week 7 of the 2024 UFL season gets underway with the Arlington Renegades (0-6) hosting the Memphis Showboats (1-5) at Choctaw Stadium. Both teams are looking to bounce back with a win after losses last week. Arlington came close to snapping its losing streak but fell 28-27 to the Michigan Panthers after a last-second 42-yard field goal from Michigan kicker Jake Bates at Ford Field. Arlington was the more efficient offensive team despite the loss, outgaining Michigan 291 total yards to 275 while converting seven of their 12 third downs.

Memphis was at home last week taking on the still-undefeated Birmingham Stallions. The Showboats lost that game 39-21. Quarterback Case Cookus did have a clean game in the loss though, completing 15 of his 23 pass attempts for 115 yards and a touchdown with no interceptions.

Coming into this game, Arlington quarterback Luis Perez leads the league in passing with 1,331 yards through the first six weeks. He’s also thrown for a league-high seven touchdowns with just two interceptions.

Chelsea will have revenge in mind travelling to Nottingham Forest in the closing stages of the Premier League campaign

Mauricio Pochettino may have succeeded in reversing his stock as Chelsea manager in recent months, but the fact remains the club hasn’t won an away game in two months travelling to Nottingham Forest on Saturday. In fact, the Blues have accumulated just one road victory in the Premier League thus far in 2024, making it easy to see where improvement is needed as they look to salvage a place in Europe next season. Wichita State looks to pull off another upset when it takes on Charlotte in the finals of the AAC Softball Tournament. The Shockers knocked off regular season champion FAU in the semifinals 12-2. It was their seventh straight win and third straight in the conference tournament. The Shockers offense has been awesome during the tournament as they have scored at least 11 runs in each game and have won two of the three games in five innings. It has been an impressive run for the Shockers and one she is trying to continue on Saturday against a 49ers team that they lost two of three to in the regular season.

The 49ers would lose three of the next five after that loss, but they have won 15 in a row since. They have been red hot and are looking to continue their winning streak to get the tournament championship on Saturday.

They got a great pitching performance on Friday in the semifinals as they beat North Texas 3-0 to advance to the finals.

Kentucky goes for its fourth straight win on Saturday afternoon when it takes on rival Florida

Kentucky looks to clinch a series win against Florida on Saturday in SEC baseball action. The Wildcats came to town on Friday to open the series against the Gators and they got a huge 12-11 win in extra innings. It was a wild ending to a great game as the Wildcats trailed 6-3 heading into the eighth inning, but they scored three runs in the top of the eighth. The Gators would score two in the bottom of the eighth to take back the lead. The Wildcats responded with three runs in the ninth, but the Gators tied it in the bottom of the inning to send it to extras. The Wildcats scored three times for a third straight inning to take the lead and then held off a Gators rally to get their third straight win.

No. 6 seed Virginia hosts Saint Joseph’s in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday.

With the underdogs coming in riding a 12-game winning streak to an Atlantic 10 championship, unseeded Saint Joseph’s takes on six-seeded Virginia in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday. 

Although they’re the heavy favorites to advance out of the first round, Virginia has lost four consecutive games heading into the NCAA Tournament with a 10-5 overall record. The Hoos lost in the ACC Tournament semifinals to top-seed Notre Dame, ending their season with losses to four straight ranked opponents. Saint Joseph’s, on the other hand, has won 12 straight games after taking down Richmond for the A10 title last Saturday. This is the third all-time matchup between these two teams, with the last meeting coming in the 2016 season.

Yale needs a sweep of archrival Harvard in its final Ivy League series of the year to clinch a spot in the conference tournament

Yale (16-22) has one path keep playing beyond Sunday — sweeping Harvard (12-24) in a three-game series that opens with the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday morning at George H.W. Bush ’48 Field in New Haven, Connecticut. The rest of the conference has finished its Ivy campaigns, with the Bulldogs able to move up from its current fifth-place spot to the No. 2 seed with a sweep. But one loss eliminates Yale and sends Penn to the tourney as the No. 4 seed along with top-seeded Columbia, Princeton and Cornell. The Bulldogs seek their first NCAA tourney bid since 2017 while the Crimson will miss the postseason for the fourth consecutive season.

William Byron, with 3 wins already in 2024, looks for a repeat of his victory at Darlington last year, with Goodyear 400 qualifying set for Saturday

The Goodyear 400 is back at Darlington Raceway for the fifth straight year since its return after a 15-year absence in 2020. With two races run during the COVID-19 pandemic season of 2020, five different winners have gone to victory lane in the previous four years. Last year, William Byron took the lead on the first lap of overtime and hung on to beat Kevin Harvick by 0.781 seconds. Byron is one of two three-time winners so far this season, joining Denny Hamlin. Meanwhile, 2021 NASCAR Cup champion Kyle Larson comes to Darlington on the heels of the closest win in NASCAR history, a 0.001-second triumph over Chris Buescher at Kansas Speedway last weekend.

A rejuvenated Newcastle hosts Brighton in the hope of improving its odds of qualifying for Europe next season

Things are on the up for a Newcastle United team that’s looking to win three straight games for the first time in more than six months but host a tricky Brighton & Hove Albion team on Saturday. The Magpies are sat sixth in the Premier League and four points below Tottenham Hotspur directly above, with a chance of still qualifying for next term’s Europa League if they can piece together the right end to their campaign. Brighton, on the other hand, is fighting for little more than pride at this stage but recently ended a stretch of six games without a win by beating a tough Aston Villa outfit.

Joao Pedro’s penalty was all that separated Brighton and Villa last weekend, with the Brazilian sealing all three points for the Seagulls with an 87th-minute penalty to push them back up to 11th.

Great Britain, which earned its way back to the Top Division, takes on defending champion Canada in Group A play at Prague Arena on Saturday

Canada, with a roster full of NHL players, comes to Prague Arena in Czechia looking for its second straight gold medal at the IIHF World Championships. The Canadians begin their quest on Saturday with a Group A matchup against Great Britain. The Brits, relegated to Division I-A in 2022, earned their way back into the Top Division with a first-place finish at the Group A tournament in Nottingham, England, last spring. Great Britain boasts no NHL players on its roster. Canada owns a record 28 gold medals in world championship play along with the most overall medals with 53. Great Britain’s lone gold medal came at the 1936 Winter Olympics before the IIHF broke away from the Olympics after the 1968 games. The last of the Brits’ five all-time medals was a silver in 1938.

A trio of young NHL starts headline Canada’s roster for the Worlds, led by Calder Trophy finalist Connor Bedard, last year’s No. 1 overall draft pick by the Chicago Blackhawks.
