Rutgers and Maryland will begin a Big Ten softball series on Wednesday afternoon in College Park.
On Wednesday evening, Big Ten softball play will continue with the first game of a double-header between Rutgers and Maryland at Maryland Softball Stadium. The Terps come into the mid-week series with an overall record of 17-19 and a conference record of 4-5, which puts them in ninth place in the Big Ten standings. The team is on a two-game losing streak with the most recent being a 4-0 loss to Illinois on Sunday at home. Collectively, the team finished the game with six hits, but was unable to bring any runs home. Courtney Wyche took the loss in the circle after pitching a complete game and striking out 10 batters.

The Scarlet Knights are currently in sixth place in the Big Ten standings with a conference record of 5-4 and an overall record of 23-16. Rutgers comes into Wednesday’s double-header on a two game win streak with the most recent being a 4-1 win over Wisconsin to secure the series victory at home on Sunday. Morgan Smith plated two of the team’s runs after smashing a two-run shot in the third to extend Rutgers’ lead to 3-0. Payton Lincavage also hit a home run in the third inning to make it a 4-0 game. The Badgers got one run back, but couldn’t close the gap further due in large part to strong pitching from Mattie Boyd, who threw a complete game and struck out 10 batters.
When Maryland and Rutgers met last season during Big Ten play, Rutgers won both games by scores of 4-3 and 5-2 at home.
