After splitting doubleheader, Cardinals wrap up road trip in getaway day matinee against the Tigers
Winners of five of their last eight games, the St. Louis Cardinals wrap up a six-game road trip today in Motown as they face off against the Detroit Tigers in a Wednesday matinee at Comerica Park. The Tigers have won six of their last nine games and have won three consecutive series heading into today’s rubber match after plating 11 runs in the nightcap of yesterday’s twin-bill. The Cardinals will start veteran right-hander Miles Mikolas (2-3, 5.91 ERA) in search of his second win in as many starts after holding the Mets to two runs over 5.2 innings of work in a 4-2 road win on Friday.

Detroit will counter with their own veteran right-hander Kenta Maeda (0-1, 5.96 ERA) who will make his sixth start of the season. Maeda spent four seasons with the Dodgers before being traded to Minnesota prior to the start of the 2020 season and then signing as a free agent with the Tigers in November. A 10-game winner three times in his career, Maeda has posted career lows in strikeout to walk ratio while tallying career worst ERA and WHIP in his first month with the Tigers.
Tigers left fielder Mark Canha leads the club in batting average, on base percentage and RBIs through his first 29 games and has four multi-hit efforts in his last nine games.
Since their meeting in the 2006 World Series, Detroit leads the series 19-10 and is 12-4 against the Cardinals at Comerica Park.
