Minnesota, winless since the international break, looks to finally clinch a playoff berth when it visits New York on Saturday afternoon
Minnesota (12-8-3, 35 points) takes it down to the wire, closing its regular season on Saturday against New York (8-12-3, 23 points) at UBS Arena on Long Island. Minnesota appeared to be comfortably in the playoffs when the Professional Women’s Hockey League broke for the world championships in March. Since returning, Minnesota dropped four straight games and hasn’t earned a single point. Now third in the standings, it can clinch a spot with a regulation tie or a loss by either Boston on Saturday or Ottawa on Sunday. New York is the lone PWHL team eliminated from postseason contention entering the final weekend of the regular season.

Minnesota, outscored 14-5 during its losing streak, fell at Toronto 4-1 on Wednesday night. Michela Cava got the guests on the board first, 4:14 into the game, but it was the club’s only tally. Grace Zumwinkle leads the team with 10 goals and 17 points, both tops among PWHL rookies.
A four-goal flurry in the second period led New York past visiting Ottawa on Tuesday night in a 4-3 victory. Ella Shelton finished with a goal and two assists, with Jade Downie-Landry, Kayla Vespa and Elizabeth Giguère also finding the net. Alex Carpenter stands tied for second in the league with 22 points and leads the the team with eight goals.
In the Minnesota net, Nicole Hensley (7-5-1) owns a .926 save percentage and a 1.98 goals-against average. Corrine Schroeder (7-7-0) posts a save percentage of .930 to go with a 2.40 GAA.
