In the other semifinal today seventh-seeded Andrey Rublev faced off with 12th-seeded Taylor Fritz in what will be a hard-hitting, highly skilled match between two of the best players in the world to fill in the other slot in the finals.
Auger-Aliassime and Lehecka have only played on time so far in their young careers. That match came last year in the round of 16 at the Australian Open. In that match Lehecka won in a four-set battle that featured two tiebreakers in the final two sets to give the young Czechoslovakian the win.
Lehecka won the opening set before Auger-Aliassime came back to tie the match one set apiece. Then with two tiebreaker wins Lehecka finished off the win 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (2), 7-6 (3). These are two of the brightest young stars in tennis with the 23-year-old Auger-Aliassime winning five titles since turning professional and making it to the round of 16 in every Grand Slam while Lehecka is building his star after his first career win earlier this year.
