In a Saturday night showdown, the Colorado Rockies will host the Texas Rangers at Coors Field. This will be the second game of the series, with Colorado earning the victory in the opening contest 4-2. That marked the second consecutive win for the Rockies this week. Colorado now sits at 10-28 on the season, which is one of the worst records in the MLB. Even then, the Rockies had success in the opener against Texas and will have a shot to win again today. The Rangers still sit at the top of the American League West with a record of 22-18. It’s a series like this that the reigning champions need to win in order to be well-positioned to run it back.

Today marks the fifth consecutive day in a row in which the Rockies have played a game. Following a series against the San Francisco Giants, Colorado turned around and hosted the Rangers immediately with not even a single-day break.

The Houston Astros will take the field at Comerica Park for the second time in this three-game series against the Detroit Tigers in Michigan on Saturday night. The Astros came to New York and won the first game 5-2 yesterday night. Frambler Valdez picked up the win, his second of the season. He pitched 7.0 innings allowing two runs on six hits with four strikeouts and a pair of walks. Kyle Tucker was the only player in Houston to blast a ball out of the park with a 409-foot homer. Four other players on the team finished with an RBI including Yordan Alvarez, Alex Bregman, Yainer Diaz, and Jeremy Pena. Both of the Tiger’s two runs were batted in in the third inning by Matt Vierling on a two-run RBI double. They will need more people to get involved if they hope to win this game today.

Alex Honnold hit a two-run RBI double in the third inning as the best play of that first game. They advanced on to go to battle against Arkansas yesterday morning and won 3-1 again. It was Jenna Laird who was the hero of the second game with two hits, two runs, and an RBI in the win. Later that day, the team took on the No. 12 ranked team in the country, LSU, and won 2-1 to allow them to advance to the championship game. Maddie Gallagher hit a two-run home run in the win to catapult the team to the final game. Kara Daly wasn’t even spoken of despite leading the team in homers this season with seven and 31 RBIs.

USC will head on the road this weekend for the second game of a three-game series against Pac-12 rival Washington State in Pullman, Washington, on Saturday night. Overn is leading the team in home runs with eight on the season on 49 hits in 196 at-bats. However, Galloway is leading the two in batting with a .303 average and a .411 on-base percentage. He has a team-high with 36 RBIs paired with six home runs on 53 hits.

The Cougars are 20-27 overall this season and have dropped down to just 8-16 against teams in the Pac-12 as well heading into this series. The New York Mets host the Atlanta Braves trying to tie up this series in Game 2 on Saturday.

This regular season series is all tied up between these NL East rivals but it is the Atlanta Braves who are going for this series win Saturday night against the New York Mets. Atlanta is going for its fourth win in a row after a 4-2 win in the opener on Friday night. The Braves scored all of their runs in the game in the third inning all off homers from the meat of their lineup in Ronald Acuna Jr., Ozzie Albies and Matt Olson. The Mets didn’t get on the board until the seventh inning off a bomb from Francisco Lindor. That was because starter Charlie Morton was dealing. He went seven innings with seven strikeouts and his only blemish was that Lindor homer to improve to 3-0 on the season. Pete Alonso hit a RBI single in the ninth but by that point, it was too little too late.

The Baltimore Orioles go for their third win in a row and the series win on Saturday afternoon against the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Orioles won the opener on Friday 4-2 to end the Diamondbacks’ four-game winning streak. With the win, the Orioles stayed in first place in the AL East but the situation is precarious as Baltimore only leads the New York Yankees by a half game. The Orioles won the opener on a solid start from Cole Irvin who gave up two runs and six strikeouts in 5.2 innings. The bullpen held tight including traditional closer Craig Kimbrel pitching a scoreless seventh inning after some recent bumps in the road. Gunnar Henderson hit an RBI double in the seventh to open up the game and give Baltimore the cushion it needed for the bullpen to put the game away.

The Washington Nationals look to clinch a big road series win on Saturday afternoon when they take on the Boston Red Sox. The Nationals took the opener 5-1 on Friday night for their third win in the last four games. The win got them over .500 on the season at 19-18 and has them in third place in the NL East. Saturday they will look to stay hot when they send Jake Irvin to the mound. Irvin comes into Saturday 2-3 with a 3.72 ERA on the season. The Nationals are 2-2 in his last four starts, but have lost five of his seven outings this season.

The Red Sox are needing another good outing from Criswell as they have been slumping over the last week.

The Red Sox will counter with Cooper Criswell as they try and even the series. Criswell has been very good so far this season as he comes into Saturday 2-1 with a 1.74 ERA. The Red Sox have won his last three starts and four of five on the season.

The Philadelphia Phillies battle the division rival Miami Marlins on Saturday afternoon looking to clinch a series win. The Phillies avoided a second straight loss on Friday when they took the opener 8-2. The win was their eighth in the last nine games and pushed their record to 27-12 on the season. They own the best record in all of baseball and Saturday they will look to stay hot when they send Taijuan Walker to the mound., Walker will be making just his second start of the season and comes into Saturday 2-0 with a 6.39 ERA. The Phillies have won both of his starts despite him giving up nine combined runs in those two starts.

Two of the six matches on the preliminary card are in the lightweight division. In those two matches Chase Hooper (13-3-1) takes on Viacheslav Borshchev (7-3-1) and Terrance McKinney (15-6-0) challenges Esteban Ribovics (12-1-0) in two matches that have the potential to steal the show here on the preliminary card.

Also on the card are two women’s matches with a women’s strawweight bout with Tabatha Ricci (9-2-0) vs. Tecia Pennington (13-6-0) and JJ Aldrich (13-6-0) vs. Veronica Hardy (8-4-1) in a women’s flyweight bout.
