After losing the first two games by 24 combined points on the road the Orlando Magic (1-2) bounced back in a big way in Game 2 of this first-round series with the Cleveland Cavaliers (2-1). Orlando has played great on the defensive end all three games this series allowing just 97, 96 and 83 points this series. The offense stalled in Cleveland scoring just 84.5 points per game before exploding for 121 points in the Game 3 win.

Heading into the third round of play in the 2024 Zurich Classic of New Orleans there are four pairs tied at -13 overall with seven more just one stroke behind. This weekend is set to be an exciting finish with Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry as one of the teams tied at -13 overall for a share of the lead. They got off to a great start in the first round with birdies on 11 holes, six on the front nine and five more on the back nine. McIlroy and Lowry slowed down in the second, but finished well enough to hold a share of the lead entering the weekend and the third round today.

Playoff-bound Montreal, locked in a tight race for the top seed, visits fourth-place Ottawa on Saturday afternoon in PWHL action.

Pascal Wehrlein, coming off a win at Misano two weeks ago, took the pole position for Saturday’s Monaco ePrix at Circuit de Monaco, a 2.062-mile street circuit laid out around the harbor and the Monte Carlo neighborhood of the principality. The Monaco ePrix marks the end of the first half of Formula E’s 16-race schedule that began in mid-January at Mexico City and continued with a doubleheader in Riyadh, races in São Paulo and Tokyo and the double-race weekend in Misano. Wehrlein came to Monaco in a tie with defending Formula E champion Jake Dennis atop the driver standings with 89 points.

SEC baseball continues for Missouri and Tennessee on Saturday afternoon in Knoxville.

On Saturday afternoon, No. 3 Tennessee will host Missouri at Lindsey Nelson Stadium for the final game of an SEC series. The Tigers have struggled this season and bring an overall record of 19-25 and a conference record of 6-14 into Saturday’s game. The team is in last place in the SEC East standings and has now lost two games in a row after dropping the first two against Tennessee by scores of 10-1 in the first and a much closer 3-2 loss in the second. Several potential impactful players still have yet to hear their name called as the NFL Draft heads into the final four rounds on Saturday.

The NFL Draft will continue today with the final four rounds and plenty of players still waiting to hear their names called. The last two days of the first three rounds have been nothing short of exciting. After going chalk for most of the first seven picks, the Atlanta Falcons had the shock of the first round drafting Washington quarterback Michael Penix Jr. after signing Kirk Cousins to a four-year deal this offseason. The first round of the draft set numerous records. To start, there were a record-setting 275,000 fans in attendance for the start of the draft in Detroit Michigan. There were a total of four quarterbacks taken in the top eight picks which is the most in that span in history. JJ McCarthy and Bo Nix ended up getting drafted later in the first round setting the record for the most quarterbacks drafted in the first round at six. The draft started with 14 straight offensive players being taken, another record, finishing off with a total of 23 offensive players selected in the first round, another record.

UMass gets back on the football field on Saturday afternoon for its annual spring game. The Minutemen are coming off a season in which they won three games. It was their most wins since they got four victories in 2018. They hadn’t won more than a game since that season and are hoping they can build off the limited success last year. They still have a long hill to climb, but they were more competitive last season. They lost four games by less than 14 points and two by three or less. It was a definite step in the right direction.

The Cornhuskers enter year two under Rhule and they are looking to improve on their 5-7 record and make it back to a bowl game. It was an up-and-down first season as they lost their first two games, but then won five of their next six. Unfortunately, they would lose their last five games by a combined 16 points to miss out on going to a bowl. It was a tough ending to the season, but one they are looking to put behind them as they enter the 2024 season.

However, the Hoyas are only 1-7 at home, with six of their seven wins coming on the road. UConn, on the other hand, is having a strong campaign with a 9-6 overall record and a 4-1 mark in conference play. The Huskies earned a 13-9 victory over the Hoyas in this matchup last season.

With the longtime rival wrapping up the regular season ahead of the ACC Men’s Lacrosse Championship, North Carolina hosts No. 2 Duke at Dorrance Field in Chapel Hill on Saturday. The Blue Devils got back in the win column with a huge win over No. 2 Virginia last week, improving their overall record to 11-3 with a 1-2 mark in conference play this season. Duke is also 3-1 on the road, with seven of its 11 wins coming at home this season. North Carolina, on the other hand, has lost five straight games to drop to 6-7 overall with a 0-3 mark in conference play and a 1-5 home record. Last season, the Blue Devils cruised to a 15-8 win over North Carolina and have won three in a row over the Tar Heels.

Florida and Georgia will meet for game two of their SEC series on Saturday morning.

In the second game of a three-game series, No. 12 Florida will take on No. 11 Georgia at Turner Softball Stadium. The Bulldogs come into Saturday’s game with an overall record of 36-12 and a conference record of 10-9 which puts them in fifth place in the SEC standings. The Gators are sitting in third place with a conference record of 13-6 and an overall record of 38-11. On Friday night in the series opener, Florida made quick work of Georgia, winning 9-1 in five innings with strong play both offensively and defensively.

In the top of the first, the Gators jumped out to a 3-0 lead. Jocelyn Erickson doubled, scoring Korbe Otis before Ava Brown singled, scoring Erickson and Skylar Wallace. Florida extended their lead in the third inning when Reagan Walsh singled to bring Wallace home again. In the fourth inning, Wallace earned two RBI with a single up the middle and Erickson earned another RBI, this time from a SAC fly. Wallace ended the fourth-inning rally by stealing home. In the fifth inning, Otis hit a SAC fly, scoring Katie Kistler.

Georgia’s only run came in the fifth inning when Jaiden Fields hit a solo shot to left center, but the offense was easily stifled by Keagan Rothrock who allowed just one earned run and struck out one in the win. Georgia used three pitchers with Shelby Walters earning the start, allowing eight earned runs, three walks and two strikeouts in the loss.

Martin Truex Jr. hunts a 4th spring victory at Dover Motor Speedway, with qualifying for the Würth 400 set for Saturday morning

Last year, Martin Truex Jr. joined an elite group of six drivers with at least three wins in the spring at Dover Motor Speedway. This weekend, the 2017 NASCAR Cup champion looks to become just the third with four victories in the Würth 400. Qualifying at The Monster Mile, scheduled for Saturday morning, hopes to return after rain scrubbed it in 2023. The race covers 400 miles and 400 laps around the oval, with two stages of 120 laps and a final segment of 160. Truex claimed last year’s checkered flag by 0.505 seconds over Ross Chastain after starting 17th in the race.

Larson, the 2021 Cup champion, leads Truex in the driver standings through 10 starts by a 15-point margin. Elliott sits 22 points back, followed by Byron (24 points behind), Reddick (43), Hamlin (51), defending Cup champion Ryan Blaney (57), Ty Gibbs (63), Chastain (82) and Alex Bowman (98).

Jimmie Johnson’s six victories stand as the spring record at Dover, one more than Bobby Allison. David Pearson, Richard Petty and Matt Kenseth join Truex as three-time victors.

Defending U-18 world champion United States takes on Norway, which has yet to score in the tournament, in Group A play on Saturday

The United States (1-0-0, 3 points) looks for its second straight victory at the 2024 IIHF World Championships on Saturday when it takes on Norway (0-1-0, 0 points) at Metro Arena in Espoo, Finland. The U.S., the defending gold medalist, blanked Slovakia in its opening game on Thursday while Norway took a pounding from host Finland in its first game on Friday. Ten teams in two groups compete in the tournament, with the top four in each group advancing to the knockout stage and the last-place finishers meeting to determine which team is relegated to Division I next year. Group A games take place in Espoo while Group B plays in Vantaa, roughly 18 miles northeast.

The United States opened the tournament on Thursday, scoring three goals in each period of a 9-0 pummeling of Slovakia. Cole Eiserman posted a hat trick and James Hagens netted a pair of goals and logged two assists. Nicholas Kempf made 24 saves to earn the shutout.

On Friday, Norway found itself at Finland’s mercy in a 7-0 loss in which it was outshot 54-12. The Finns led 3-0 after one period and put in four more goals in the second. Norwegian goalie Markus Walberg headed to the bench after Finland’s sixth goal at 32:35 of the second period, with Amund Martinsen stopping 16 of 17 shots the rest of the way.

Last year’s gold medal for the United States marked its first since 2017 and extended its record total to 11 since the tournament launched in 1999. The U.S. also leads in all-time medals with 19, adding five silver and three bronze medals. Norway still seeks its first hardware at the event.
