The only first-round series still in action and headed to a seventh game takes center stage today with the fourth-seeded Cleveland Cavaliers (3-3) hosting the Orlando Magic (3-3). Through the first six games of this series the home team has won each with Cleveland taking that slight edge into Game 7. The first four games of the series were all blowouts with Cleveland winning at home by a combined 24 points followed by Orlando winning the next two at home by a combined 61 points. This series has been a national coming out party for Banchero in his second season putting the offense on his back. He is averaging 25.2 points, 7.3 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game on 48-38-71 shooting splits. During this series, Banchero has two 30-plus point games showing he can put the team on his back.

For Cleveland, it might be without starter Jarrett Allen (ribs) for the third straight game giving Evan Mobley more opportunity to control the paint. In two games with Allen out of the lineup Mobley has played great on the defensive end (seven blocks, three steals), but on the offensive end he has struggled with just 17 points and four assists on 8-16 shooting from the field.

On the perimeter, Cleveland will need big games from Mitchell, who is seemingly playing through pain and injuries, and Darius Garland. In Game 6 Mitchell carried the offense with 50 points in a loss, but has struggled all series to find his shot shooting 11-44 from three (25.0%) and scoring at an inefficient, high rate.

This Sunday, the Michigan Panthers will try to win back-to-back games for the first time this season when they welcome the Arlington Renegades to Ford Field for Week 6 UFL action.

Through the first half of the 2024 UFL season, the Michigan Panthers (3-2) have been an up-and-down team. They beat the St. Louis Battlehawks 18-16 in Week 1, and since have alternated wins and losses in every game. Last week being an odd-number week they came away with a win and a season-best offensive performance as they took down the Memphis Showboats 35-18. This week, they’ll try again for their first back-to-back wins of the season as they host the Arlington Renegades (0-5) at Ford Field.

In that massive offensive performance last week the Panthers were very efficient. They went 7-for-14 on third downs, and scored touchdowns on four of their six red zone trips. Defensively they forced four turnovers, with two interceptions and two fumble recoveries.

On the other side is an Arlington team that has come close to picking up its first win of the year, but still hasn’t been able to get over the hump. Four of the Renegades five losses have come by 10 points or fewer, including a 25-15 loss to the San Antonio Brahmas last week.

He will have a great opportunity for a second title this season against Auger-Aliassime, who Rublev is 4-1 in his career against in five matches. The two have played once this year in the round of 16 in Rotterdam where Rublev came away with the 3-6, 7-6, 7-5 win. Auger-Aliassime comes in ranked 35th this year with an 11-10 overall record. A win today would get him over the hump against Rublev and his first title of the year.

Auger-Aliassime’s journey to the finals included two straight sets wins over seeded opponents, but also three walkovers against opponents who were not able to complete their matches.

In his full matches, Auger-Aliassime defeated 19th-seeded Adrian Mannarino (6-0, 6-4) and fifth-seeded Casper Ruud (6-4, 7-5). Rublev has been on a role this tournament defeating Facundo Bagnis (6-1, 6-4), 27th seeded Alejandro Davidovich Fokina (7-6 (12-10), 6-4), 24th seeded Tallon Griekspoor (6-2, 6-4) and 12th seeded Taylor Fritz (6-4, 6-3) in straight sets while needing a third against second-seeded Carlos Alcaraz (4-6, 6-3, 6-2) taking down the defending champion.

The top 2 teams in the Eastern Conference clash on Sunday at Veterans Memorial Stadium as the Chicago Hounds visit the New England Free Jacks

The much-improved Chicago Hounds (4-3-1, 23 points) visit Veterans Memorial Stadium in Quincy, Massachusetts, on Sunday to take on the defending champion New England Free Jacks (6-2, 29 points). Chicago exceeded last season’s total of three wins on April 21 and brings a three-match winning streak off a bye week last week. The Free Jacks bounced back last week with a victory. The Hounds, in their second season in Major League Rugby, stand second in the Eastern Conference behind New England, which won its first MLR Shield last season after reaching the playoffs for the first time in 2022. The Free Jacks played their first MLR season in 2020.

Georgia and Mississippi State to decide their 3-game series in Starkville on Sunday, fighting for SEC tournament seeding

No. 12 Georgia (38-14) struck back on Saturday with a win at No. 19 Mississippi State (32-17) and the teams will decide their three-game series in their regular-season finale on Sunday morning at Nusz Park in Starkville. Georgia enters Sunday fifth in the Southeastern Conference at 12-11, ahead of Missouri on a head-to-head tiebreaker. Mississippi State stands at 11-12 and in eighth place, a half-game behind LSU’s 12-12 mark. Both teams will play in the first round of the SEC tournament next week, hosted by Auburn. Georgia’s streak of consecutive NCAA tournament bids stands at 21 since its first bid in 2002. It owns five Women’s College World Series trips, the most recent in 2021. Mississippi State missed last year’s NCAA tourney and has never advanced beyond the super regionals.
