Seattle spent the offseason collecting All-Stars and All-WNBA caliber players after spending just one season without legend Sue Bird and Breanna Stewart who retired and left in the offseason respectively in 2023. Seattle added former MVP Nneka Ogwumike and six-time All-Star Skylar Diggins-Smith in the offseason to join Seattle’s young All-Star duo.

The Las Vegas Aces will host the Phoenix Mercury on Tuesday night in WNBA action.

The WNBA season will officially begin on Tuesday night for Diana Taurasi and the Phoenix Mercury as the team travels to Las Vegas to take on Kelsey Plum and the Aces at Michelob ULTRA Arena. The Mercury struggled last season, finishing in last place with a record of 9-31. The team may be off to a rough start for 2024, as well, after the team announced last night that it would be without Center Brittney Griner after she suffered a fractured toe ahead of the 2024 season opener. Griner averaged 17.5 points, 6.3 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.6 blocks per game last season, reaching the All-Star game for the eighth time. Without the two-time Defensive Player of the Year, the Mercury will have an uphill battle on Tuesday night.

The Aces come into the season after successfully defending their WNBA title following their 3-1 series victory over the New York Liberty in October. The Milwaukee Brewers hope to get even with the Pittsburgh Pirates in Game 2 on Tuesday of this four-game series.

The Pittsburgh Pirates look to go up 2-0 on Tuesday against the NL Central-leading Milwaukee Brewers. The Brewers will try to avoid losing three in a row tonight as their division lead has shrunk to just a half-game over the Chicago Cubs. Fortunately for Milwaukee, the Cubs also lost last night. The Pirates beat the Brewers in the opener Monday 8-6. Mitch Keller pitched great for the Pirates despite what the final score may indicate. The righty went six scoreless innings despite giving up eight hits and he struck out seven. Milwaukee scored all of its runs off the bullpen. Milwaukee came within in a run in the eighth but they didn’t have enough momentum in the ninth to complete the comeback. A lot of that had to do with Bryan Reynolds who went 5-for-5 with a homer and two doubles with two RBIs.

Third-seeded Boston returns home Tuesday night to the Tsongas Center in suburban Lowell, Massachusetts, looking to put a bow on a stunning upset of No. 2 seed Montreal in the Professional Women’s Hockey League semifinals. A pair of overtime victories in Laval, Quebec, put Boston in the driver’s seat, returning home with a 2-0 series lead. Kristin O’Neill scored her second goal of the series 1:58 into the second period to tie the game for Montreal before the game remained scoreless for the next 89:46. Ann-Renée Desbiens took her second straight playoff loss despite 50 saves.

Frankel stopped 109 of 111 Montreal shots in the first two games, a .982 save percentage. Gigi Marvin has two assists for Boston in the series while O’Neill has scored Montreal’s only two goals, each with Maureen Murphy drawing an assist. The winner of the series faces the victory of the Minnesota-Toronto series in the finals. Minnesota remained alive with a 2-0 victory on Monday night to cut Toronto’s lead to 2-1.

The Braves look to clinch a series over the Cubs when the two teams play on Tuesday night

The Atlanta Braves battle the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday night in the second game of a three-game set. The Braves shut out the Cubs on Monday in the opener 2-0. The Braves got both of their runs in the bottom of the sixth. They got three straight two-out doubles to get both runs and that would be all they needed. The win was their fifth in the last six games and pushed their record to 25-13 on the season. Tuesday they will look to stay hot when they send Chris Sale to the mound. Sale has been good in his first season with the Braves as he comes into Tuesday 5-1 with a 2.95 ERA. The Braves have won his last four starts and five of seven on the season.

After losing three consecutive series to open the month of May, the Detroit Tigers have a shot at claiming their first series win since taking two of three games from Kansas City at the end of April as today they play host to the Miami Marlins for the second of three games at Comerica Park. The Tigers posted a three-run eighth inning on Monday night sparked by a two-run home run by Spencer Torkelson to give Detroit the lead after blowing an early 3-0 lead. The loss last night was the eighth in the last 10 games for the Marlins who are just 6-17 on the road this season.

Detroit will start 24-year-old right-hander Reese Olson (0-4, 2.52 ERA) tonight in search of his first win of the season allowing two or fewer earned runs in five of his seven starts having been done in by his run support as the Tigers have been held to one run or less in three of his last five starts. The Toronto Blue Jays play the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday night in the second game of a three-game set. The Blue Jays came to town having lost seven of their last 10 games, but they picked up a win in the opener 3-2 in 10 innings. Dalton Varsho helped the Blue Jays get the win as he homered in the eighth inning to tie the game at two and then he had an RBI ground out in the 10th for the winning run. The win pushed the Blue Jays record to 19-22 on the season. On Tuesday they will look to clinch the series when they send Chris Bassitt to the mound. Bassitt comes into Tuesday 3-5 with a 5.06 ERA.

Winners of 14 of their last 17 games the Philadelphia Phillies continue their seven-game road trip today at Citi Field as they take on the New York Mets in a Tuesday matinee.
