UCLA begins its first year under new head coach DeShaun Foster when it plays its annual spring game on Saturday

DeShaun Foster leads UCAL out on the football field for the first time as a head coach on Saturday for the Bruins’ annual spring game. Foster takes over for Chip Kelly who left to become the offensive coordinator for Ohio State after the season. Foster takes over a team that will be moving to the Big Ten after leaving the Pac-12 with Oregon, Washington and USC. The Bruins are coming off an 8-5 season in 2023 that concluded with a 35-22 win over Boise State in the LA Bowl. The end of the regular season didn’t go as planned, though, as they lost three of their last four and dropped out of contention in the Pac-12.

It isn’t going to be easy, though, as they will travel to LSU for a huge non-conference battle in Week 3 and they also must travel to Penn State, Nebraska and Washington.

They will welcome Oregon, Iowa and USC to town in their toughest home games. They avoid both Michigan and Ohio State this year, though.

The final ACC series of the season will continue for North Carolina and Florida State on Saturday.

North Carolina will look to pull off an upset over No. 11 Florida State on Saturday in the second game of the teams’ final ACC series of the regular season ahead of tournament play next weekend. The Tar Heels come into Saturday’s game with an overall record of 30-17 and a conference record of 10-12 for a spot in seventh place in the ACC standings. The team has lost two games in a row with the most recent being a 13-3 loss in the series opener against Florida State last night in six innings. The Seminoles held North Carolina to just four hits, only one of which was an extra-base hit as Carlie Myrtle hit a solo shot in the second inning. Kenna Raye Dark dropped to 8-5 on the season, taking the loss after 0.2 innings of pitching in which she gave up five earned runs.

The Seminoles are currently on a 12-game win streak and will look to add one more on Saturday. Jahni Kerr, Isa Torres and Jaysoni Beachum each hit home runs in the win and Beachum led the team with an impressive five RBI. The Cubs go for their fifth win in a row on Saturday afternoon when they visit the Red Sox

The Chicago Cubs battle the Boston Red Sox on Saturday afternoon in the middle game of their three-game series. The Cubs came to Boston on Friday night and took the opener 7-1. The win was the fourth in a row and pushed their record to 17-9 on the season. Shota Imanaga was once again impressive as he gave up just one run in six and a third innings to move to 3-0 on the season. The Cubs will now send Ben Brown to the mound as they look to clinch the series win. Brown will be making his third start and sixth appearance on the season. The Cubs have won all five games he has pitched in.

So far this series through two games Gilgeous-Alexander is averaging 30.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game on 55.8% shooting from the field. He is playing at the level of a player that is in the final three of MVP voting this season and helped lead his team to the number one overall seed in the Western Conference.

Oklahoma City has had balance with rising stars Holmgren (20.5 points, 9.0 rebounds and 3.5 blocks per game) and Williams (20.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game) both playing at a high level through the first two games this series. Those three and the rest of the young roster around them became the first team ever to have all points come from players 25 years old or younger.

The 15th round of AMA Supercross heads to Philadelphia with the top riders in the sport today.

For the first time Philadelphia, Pennsylvania plays host to the best riders in AMA Supercross on Lincoln Financial Field. Today is filled with qualifying on both the 250SX and 450SX circuits with every driver looking to come out on top for the main event races. The Los Angeles Dodgers are coming off a hot start to this series and will try to win it against the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday afternoon. It is difficult to have a more dominant game than the Dodgers did on Friday beating Toronto 12-2. Shohei Ohtani continued his brilliant start on the field for the Dodgers by hitting his seventh homer of the year amidst boos for the Toronto faithful. Orlando has played great on the defensive end all three games this series allowing just 97, 96 and 83 points this series. The offense stalled in Cleveland scoring just 84.5 points per game before exploding for 121 points in the Game 3 win.

Banchero’s scoring played a huge part in the win, but so was the play of the team in every facet of the offense. Orlando as a team had single-digit made three-pointers, under 20 assists and were outrebounded in each of the first two games.

Boston fights for its playoff life on Saturday afternoon while Minnesota looks to clinch a playoff berth with any sort of points on Saturday in PWHL action.

Boston led 2-1 after one period at Ottawa on Wednesday night before the hosts came back for a 3-2 shootout victory. Captain Hilary Knight opened the scoring just 1:30 into the game and Jamie Lee Rattray added an unassisted tally with 59 seconds left in the first period.

Minnesota absorbed a 4-0 shutout loss at Ottawa on April 20 despite outshooting the hosts 35-22. Nicole Hensley took the loss in net in one of her poorest performances of the season.

Grace Zumwinkle of Minnesota leads the club with 10 goals, only one of two double-digit goal scorers in the PWHL, and her 17 points stands fifth in the league. Boston’s Aerin Frankel’s .930 save percentage ranks third in the league, just ahead of Hensley’s .925 mark.

The third round of the Zurich Classic of New Orleans tees off with a four-way tie at the top of the leaderboard today.

Heading into the third round of play in the 2024 Zurich Classic of New Orleans there are four pairs tied at -13 overall with seven more just one stroke behind. This weekend is set to be an exciting finish with Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry as one of the teams tied at -13 overall for a share of the lead. They got off to a great start in the first round with birdies on 11 holes, six on the front nine and five more on the back nine. McIlroy and Lowry slowed down in the second, but finished well enough to hold a share of the lead entering the weekend and the third round today.

Those two will look to move past the other three teams tied at -13 overall in Aaron Rai and David Lipsky, Davis Thompson and Andrew Novak, and Ryan Brehm and Mark Hubbard over the next 36 holes at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans.

In the first round the teams of McIlroy and Lowry, Rai and Lipsky, and Brehm and Hubbard all shot a 61 then followed that up with a 70 in the second round. Thompson and Novak started off with a 62 and then earned a share of the lead with a 69 in the second round to sit at the top of the leaderboard.

One of the teams tied for fifth place with a -12 overall is Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele who have been steady and consistent. In the first round they shot a 65 followed by a 67 to sit one stroke back of the lead heading into the weekend. Aside from one bogey on 18 in the second round, they have shot a clean first two rounds of golf.

Playoff-bound Montreal, locked in a tight race for the top seed, visits fourth-place Ottawa on Saturday afternoon in PWHL action.

Montreal (12-5-5, 38 points) booked its tickets to the inaugural Professional Women’s Hockey League playoffs with a victory on Wednesday. Tied with Toronto for first place with two games left on its schedule, Montreal visits TD Place on Saturday to take on Ottawa (9-6-6, 32 points). Ottawa picked up two points with a shootout win over Boston on Wednesday, increasing its lead over Boston for the final playoff spot to three points. Saturday marks Ottawa’s home finale before finishing its schedule at New York and Toronto next week. Montreal plays its final game of the season at Boston next week.

Montreal rode a three-goal second period to a 5-2 victory over visiting New York on Wednesday to clinch a playoff berth and eliminate New York in the process. Montreal took a 1-0 lead in the first on Catherine Daoust’s first goal of the season while Ann-Renée Desbiens stopped 31 shots.

Gabbie Hughes netted the equalizer for Ottawa at 11:14 of the third period and Kateřina Mrázová scored twice in the shootout to secure its important 3-2 victory over Boston on Wednesday. Brianne Jenner scored the first goal for Ottawa, running her streak of consecutive games lighting the lamp to four.

With an assist on Wednesday, Marie-Philip Poulin of Montreal took over the PWHL scoring lead with 22 points and is tied for third with nine goals. Jenner, with six goals and nine points during her streak, rocketed to fourth in the scoring race and also has nine goals.

Alavés receives a visit from Celta de Vigo on Saturday in La Liga action.

Mendizorroza Stadium is set to host the exciting weekend matchup between home side Alavés and visiting club Celta de Vigo on Saturday in La Liga action. The hosts head into the meeting having been able to secure a total of 35 points in 32 matches so far in the Spanish top-flight campaign, courtesy of an overall record of nine wins, eight draws and 15 losses. In the club’s most recent outing, Alavés took a 2-0 victory over Atlético Madrid last Sunday at Mendizorroza Stadium. Carlos Benavídez and Luis Rioja found the back of the net to secure all three points for the club at home. The win snapped a three-match losing streak for Alavés, which dated back to its narrow 1-0 finish over Rayo Vallecano on March 10, also at Mendizorroza Stadium. That victory was secured by Andoni Gorosabel’s game-winner just before halftime.

Points co-leader Pascal Wehrlein takes the pole for Saturday’s Formula E Monaco ePrix on the Circuit de Monaco

Pascal Wehrlein, coming off a win at Misano two weeks ago, took the pole position for Saturday’s Monaco ePrix at Circuit de Monaco, a 2.062-mile street circuit laid out around the harbor and the Monte Carlo neighborhood of the principality. The Monaco ePrix marks the end of the first half of Formula E’s 16-race schedule that began in mid-January at Mexico City and continued with a doubleheader in Riyadh, races in São Paulo and Tokyo and the double-race weekend in Misano. Wehrlein came to Monaco in a tie with defending Formula E champion Jake Dennis atop the driver standings with 89 points.

SEC baseball continues for Missouri and Tennessee on Saturday afternoon in Knoxville.

On Saturday afternoon, No. 3 Tennessee will host Missouri at Lindsey Nelson Stadium for the final game of an SEC series. The Tigers have struggled this season and bring an overall record of 19-25 and a conference record of 6-14 into Saturday’s game. The team is in last place in the SEC East standings and has now lost two games in a row after dropping the first two against Tennessee by scores of 10-1 in the first and a much closer 3-2 loss in the second. Logan Lunceford earned the loss, pitching 5.0 innings allowing two earned runs, two walks and four strikeouts. Missouri’s only runs came from a Trevor Austin blast to left field in the eight, but the Vols held them to just six hits.

Tennessee scored two runs in the fourth inning to open up the scoring when Dylan Dreiling was able to come home on a wild pitch and Hunter Ensley doubled allowing Dean Curley to score. In the seventh inning, the Volunteers were able to extend their lead when Blake Burke grounded out to first, scoring Cal Stark. Earning the win was Drew Beam pitching 7.1 innings and allowing two earned runs while striking out an impressive eight batters.

Several potential impactful players still have yet to hear their name called as the NFL Draft heads into the final four rounds on Saturday.

The NFL Draft will continue today with the final four rounds and plenty of players still waiting to hear their names called. The last two days of the first three rounds have been nothing short of exciting. After going chalk for most of the first seven picks, the Atlanta Falcons had the shock of the first round drafting Washington quarterback Michael Penix Jr. after signing Kirk Cousins to a four-year deal this offseason. The first round of the draft set numerous records. To start, there were a record-setting 275,000 fans in attendance for the start of the draft in Detroit Michigan. There were a total of four quarterbacks taken in the top eight picks which is the most in that span in history. JJ McCarthy and Bo Nix ended up getting drafted later in the first round setting the record for the most quarterbacks drafted in the first round at six. The draft started with 14 straight offensive players being taken, another record, finishing off with a total of 23 offensive players selected in the first round, another record.

UMass gets back on the football field on Saturday afternoon for its annual spring game. The Minutemen are coming off a season in which they won three games. It was their most wins since they got four victories in 2018. They hadn’t won more than a game since that season and are hoping they can build off the limited success last year. They still have a long hill to climb, but they were more competitive last season. They lost four games by less than 14 points and two by three or less. It was a definite step in the right direction.

The Minutemen have recently announced they are going to join the MAC, but that doesn’t go into effect until July 1, 2025.

They will get a taste of what it will be like in the conference as they will play five current members of the conference in 2024.

Matt Rhule leads Nebraska onto the field on Saturday afternoon for its annual Red-White Spring Game. The Cornhuskers enter year two under Rhule and they are looking to improve on their 5-7 record and make it back to a bowl game. It was an up-and-down first season as they lost their first two games, but then won five of their next six. Unfortunately, they would lose their last five games by a combined 16 points to miss out on going to a bowl. It was a tough ending to the season, but one they are looking to put behind them as they enter the 2024 season.

Connecticut visits Georgetown for a Big East showdown to wrap up the regular season on Saturday.

With one game remaining before the Big East Tournament begins in Cincinnati next week, unraked Georgetown faces conference foe Connecticut at Cooper Field on Saturday. Georgetown has climbed their way back into the Big East mix with four straight wins, improving their overall record to 7-9 with an impressive 4-1 mark in conference play this season. However, the Hoyas are only 1-7 at home, with six of their seven wins coming on the road. UConn, on the other hand, is having a strong campaign with a 9-6 overall record and a 4-1 mark in conference play. The Huskies earned a 13-9 victory over the Hoyas in this matchup last season.

No. 2 Duke visits rival North Carolina to wrap up the regular season on Saturday.

With the longtime rival wrapping up the regular season ahead of the ACC Men’s Lacrosse Championship, North Carolina hosts No. 2 Duke at Dorrance Field in Chapel Hill on Saturday. The Blue Devils got back in the win column with a huge win over No. 2 Virginia last week, improving their overall record to 11-3 with a 1-2 mark in conference play this season. Duke is also 3-1 on the road, with seven of its 11 wins coming at home this season. North Carolina, on the other hand, has lost five straight games to drop to 6-7 overall with a 0-3 mark in conference play and a 1-5 home record. Last season, the Blue Devils cruised to a 15-8 win over North Carolina and have won three in a row over the Tar Heels.

Most recently, the Blue Devils won in convincing fashion over then-No.2 Virginia by a final score of 18-12 last Saturday in Durham. Duke’s attack trio of Josh Zawada, Brennan O’Neill and Dyson Williams combined to score 12 goals in the contest. Freshman goaltender Patrick Jameison also made 13 saves in net. 

As for North Carolina, the Tar Heels fell to top-ranked Notre Dame by a final score of 14-6 in South Bend last Saturday. Logan McGovern scored twice for the Heels in the loss. 

The second-ranked Blue Devils look to finish the regular season strong against North Carolina.
